Autism ABA Services
Assessment determines the level of the Learner’s need and assists in the development of a treatment plan. The assessment tool used will be determined based on the intake interview and initial conversations with the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Possible assessment tools include but are not limited to:
- Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)
- Functional Analysis Screening Tool (FAST)
- Verbal Behavior-Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP)
- The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills – Revised (ABLLS-R)
- PEAK: Relational Training System
- Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS)
- TEACCH Transition Assessment Profile (TTAP)
- Social Language Development Test Elementary and Adolescent
ABA therapy is available for learners with a medical diagnosis of Autism.
After conducting a thorough assessment, the BCBA provides training and guidance for the development and implementation of effective behavior change interventions designed to address specific behavior. The generalization and maintenance of the learner’s newly acquired skills are also closely planned for and monitored by the supervising BCBA.
Dana Affrunti, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), meets with your family and team of RBT therapists as outlined within the recommendations set forth by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (www.BACB.com). These sessions include the following: evaluating the learner’s progress, updating the learner’s program, explaining new programs and procedures, modifying existing programs, as well as evaluating and enhancing the skills of the instructors.
Between visits with the BCBA, the family and team of therapists engages the learner in the behavioral programs developed by the consultant.
We strongly encourage parent and caregiver participation in therapy. If the parent cannot be present for all the sessions the parent will remain informed and involved via progress reports, data graphs, telephone calls and in-person meetings.
Therapy may be delivered in the home, community and or clinic environments as to promote opportunities for skill generalization.
For home based services, the family will provide an appropriate area for instruction within the house and most instructional material including but not limited to developmentally appropriate toys, games and other material, writing paper and preferred items. Maintaining this safe, sanitary, secure area for behavioral instruction, free of emotional stress, aids the team in delivery of quality services.
Coordination of Services with School and Other Providers.
The BCBA will coordinate services with the learners school and other service providers including speech and occupational therapists. Contact with these providers allow the consultant to work with other providers to help ensure that the teaching methods and curriculum choices are consistent across environments.
Complementary Consultation is free for anyone who may be thinking about starting ABA therapy services for a youth with Autism or who is on a wait list elsewhere. Dana Affrunti will conduct a one hour in-home observation and brief assessment. You will receive a written one or two page report summarizing observations and recommendations. If the family pursues ABA services for their child with DBS, a full assessment will be completed at the onset of services.
